850 Coverage Expanded

Sep 30, 2005, 2:20 PM
As part of an ongoing effort to provide customers with more coverage, T-Mobile has added over 320,000 square miles in coverage in 2005. The majority was added through 850 MHz roaming partnerships, primarily in the following markets:

Minneapolis/St. Paul
Indianapolis
Chicago
Detroit
Little Rock

An aggressive marketing campaign about additional coverage in select markets will be launched in the near future. T-Mobile plans to have extended its footprint by 45 percent due to roaming on 850 MHz.
Customers who have 850 enabled handsets will be able to take advantage of the additional roaming coverage. Current 850 Roaming enabled handsets are:

Phones: Motorola V188, Motorola V330, Nokia 3220, Nokia 3595, Nokia 6010, Nokia 6800...

That's good news. I've got a question, though: will the 850 coverage be accessible for prepaid customers?

No. Tmo To Go is only on the native T-Mobile network. 850 is only roaming coverage outside of T-Mobile network areas. So no, 850 will not be accessible for prepaid customers since they can only use the T-Mobile network and that's only 1900 and will likely remain so unless T-Mobile buys a cellular provider which is highly unlikely.

Well, so be it. a PCS-only coverage isn't that bad. In Canada, Fido also operates in PCS-only and my old phone was a Fido, and I've never had anything to complain about, save the automated system that works with f****** vocal commands. I truly *HATED* that.

Anyways, I've got a Siemens M46, so no 850 isn't that much of a big loss as my phone is a monoband.

You will get charged for roaming if you have a regional plan and roam, but not if you are on a national plan.
