Where is the EDGE capable aircard?

I have been waiting since word that EDGE was available in early September for an EDGE capable aircard. Only the non-EDGE aircard was on the web site, now for the past week or so there have been no aircards at all.

Does anyone know when the EDGE aircard will be out?

Also I have been reading on HoFo that Tmo is considering raising its internet plan from $29.99 to $49.99? Is this true?

I hope not, as I won't pay that much for it. If it is $29.99 I will buy it and drop Qwest DSL that I am paying $31.99 for, plus drop my home phone line I don't use except for internet that I pay $15 for...I will save $17/mo by having Tmo for cell/internet.

If Tmo does charge $49.99 it is more than I am paying now with Qwest ($46.99), and EDGE is ...

The plans now include all internet unlimited.

$29.99 or $49.99 gets you unlimited EDGE/GPRS and Wi-Fi.

Same roaming, ETC.

So why is one $20 more? What is the difference?

I just called and the rep could hardly explain the difference. The rep said one includes MMS and one doesn't. That doesn't tell my why they are charging and extra $20.

This is my guess.

T-Mobile TOTAL Internet ($49.99) includes WiFi hotspot access, and T-Mobile Internet ($29.99) does not.

Looks like they are selling the Sony Ericsson GC89 now in addition to the GC79. The GC89 is EDGE enabled. Both cards are also WiFi enabled.

Being rather far behind the curve in broadband wireless data, T-MO is really pushing to bundle their GPRS/EDGE service with WiFi.

Clarification- They are the same plan. The $29.99 is an add on and the $49.99 is stand alone. $29.99 is for customer who has a voice plan and moves his sim back and forth. $49.399 is for a data only plan. Same way Sidekick is $20 with voice or $29.99 stand alone. I just got this card and it is pretty nice. I have a home wifi network, I am in starbucks often and it includes all T-Mobile hotspots and EDGE for when I am mobile or not in range of a Hotspot or open Wifi Network. Not everyone has Wifi built in to their laptop, it is a nice alternative.

Back to one plan, the $29.99 add-on has been dropped off the web site, only the $49.99 remains...

The $49.99 plan isn't a bad plan for people who use their laptops outside their homes, but unfortunately that is not me. I just wanted EDGE at the same price as DSL to drop a home phone I don't use.

With the baby bells bundling home phone + wireless phone + DSL, Tmo could combat them by running a 'why pay for a home phone you don't use' campaign.

With Tmo wireless plans giving tons of minutes, and bringing back the 29.99 plan for aircards, they could undercut the baby bell bundles...by offering their own bundle for people who don't want a redundant landline phone.

T-Mobile Total Internet

Overview

On November 7, T-Mobile will launch T-Mobile Total Internet. This is a new data service that delivers unlimited Internet access using the full complement of T-Mobile’s data network, GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi (T-Mobile HotSpot), all at a very affordable price! T-Mobile Total Internet is aligned with the launch of the GC89 network card, which is GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi enabled – all in one card!

In addition, T-Mobile Total Internet can be added as a feature to any qualifying voice rate plan for just $29.99 per month.
Note: This add-on is available only when a customer is combining voice and data on the same SIM card.

Expiring Plans:

There is no change to the BlackBerry Minutes & Mail rate plans, w...

HA! Just read this.

Regarding my earlier post to this thread...it seems that T-Mo is not going to simply encourage customers to accept the bundled WiFi service with GPRS/EDGE...they are going to INSIST!! 🤣

...thereby removing the ONLY real incentive to use T-Mo wireless data: VALUE.

Why is this a stupid idea to get both for the price of the internet plan?

guitarman21,

What would you rather pay for GPRS/EDGE, if that is all you wanted: $19.99 or $49.99?

In the in store brocures, it looks like you can still buy hotspot for $20 with a contract, per day for $10, or per week.

Since these changes in rates were only announced 4 days ago, I doubt that the brochures have been updated.
