sun,

that just means that the previous settlment ($450m) is not going to be enforcable. so as explained in the other posts, 3 things can happen... 1. the injunction to be enforced. 2. the work around solution or 3. settle for a highier amount..

dont be so worked up yet, however, be aware before you do any blackberry purchasing.

The bad news is I already did and sooo many others have done it along with me. Like you said, I highly doubt they'd cease and desist overnight but in this world of corrupt corporations, you never can tell! 🙄

lol.. we have too many threads about this. lol..

it is bad news of course, but if they were found guilty of violating it they should be punished.. but to force the cease of blackberrys in the usa which is more then 65% of their revenue and more then 3 million subscribers i think is a horrible situation.. remember, if there was to be an injunction, NTP wouldnt get a dime, becuase they would get royalties every time a blackberry service/product were to be sold.. in my view i think it is just a great negotiation tool for NTP with Rimm.

it wont stop overnight.. (remember the 90 day grace period?)

I wouldn't worry too much. It is true that if RIM is not allowed to continue, NTP would get nothing. And believe me, no company wants to lose out of a potential billion dollar payoff. Most business experts seem to be saying that RIM will lose the case in the end, but rather than being shut down, they will just be forced to pay the cost. So keep that chin up and turn that frown upside down because you won't have to pay a penny of that 450M to 1B dollar settlement when it finally gets enforced. 😁

🙄 Dude, I know I won't be involved in shelling out the dough in contributing to the 450 million (or greater). However, my worry is I just bought a RIM BB 7105T, probably one of the more swee...

Right and like I said, most of the business experts don't expect RIM to be shut down, so cheer up. 🙂

😳 Dude,

All the news channelslast night, both Cable (CNN, CNN HN, CNBC, MSNBC and FOX News) as well as the public non pay (CBS, ABC, FOX and NBC) are saying that the potential shut down could come within the next 2 weeks unless either the workaround from RIM's end is established and deployed for production usage or a settlement (potentially $1 Billion) is reached at. For all you realists and optimists, welcome to the reality of the situation to move forward. 🙄 Get over your denial states right from now!!! I am not so sure RIM will shell out the big $1 Billion to settle this. Esp...

From an article on CNN:
"The judge could issue an injunction, but several analysts doubt that RIM will have to stop selling BlackBerries."

Feel free to read it yourself. I really think the RIM shut down is more sensationalism than reality. Face it, reality doesn't sell as well as a sensational title.

I work in industry too, and I still don't think RIM will be shutdown. No one wins that way and no one gets paid. Trust me, I have never been accused of being an optimist or having a sunny disposition. I am just trying to show you that it doesn't really look like RIM will be shut down because it won't benefit either party in the case. Cheers.

If I were in your shoes, i.e. just bought a BB, I would be feeling the same way. Hopefully though, things will work out in your favor. 🙂

I've heard it, but it still gets me rolling everytime I hear it. When I was in the military we kept threatening to take that dang crackberry away from our Colonel because he would send out e-mails to everyone left and right from it. Used to bog down our servers with all the mail.
