Password required when calling t-mo Cust Svc?
I was calling T-Mo customer service today to ask them a question regarding how my account was setup. As usual, they asked for my mobile # and last four of my SSN. Next they asked me for a password (not my t-mobile.com password either). I have never had this happen before. Is this something new?

Well if you have a password on your account naturally they would ask for it. Most times they ask me for either my password or the last 4 of my social.

Funny thing is, the rep refused to access my account because I wouldn't provide my password even though I provided the last 4 of my social. She said that I would have to go to a retail location and have them change my password.

go to a corporate dealer near you with your id and they will tell you. if you have specific instructions on your account to ask for your password we cant tell you anything.

Why don't you just give her your password and then ask for them to take it off????? I'm not seeing where the problem is...God forbid they would want to protect your security!

It sounds like there are special instructions for your account to only verify via password. A T-Mobile retail store should be able to help with that. Account security is something T-Mobile takes seriously; not doing so would open them (or any carrier) up for lawsuits...

Just so I am clear on the situation:
Are you saying that you called into customer care, gave your name and last 4 of ssn. However in addition they asked you for a password. Did you ever set up a password.
If you did set up a password then we are legally obligated to use that as verification instead of last 4 of ssn.
