OUTRAGEOUS DEPOSIT! HELP

lorilicious

Jan 7, 2006, 2:14 PM
OMG I went into a place called "absolute wireless" here in town that carries Tmobile, I went ahead and got my credit ran to see what it would take to get lines of service with them.
I need 3 lines (me, mom and sister), My credit score is around 545 or so.. yeah kinda shaky but not TERRIBLY UNGODLY AWFUL! lol...
Well the guy that ran my credit said that I would need a $500 deposit for EACH one of my lines! WTF~!!! is this for real! That's freakin $1500 just to have 3 cell phones to share in a plan! f*ck!
I almost fell out of my chair when I was told this.
Can anyone help me! The guy was so pushy with me getting nextel that makes me wonder if he is lying to me to get me to get nextel.. lol

I need help!

He's not lying, that sounds about right, nextel's credit checks approve more people without deposit than t-mobile does, If you still think he's lying then go to a direct T-Mobile store (they only deal T-Mobile) and see for yourself, sorry that you feel like you're being screwed, some sales reps really don't know how to break that news to some customers. Good Luck

that's simply outrageous tho! I mean wow! I"m not trying to get a house or a car! just a freakin phone! lmao... been with sprint for 5 years and paying , I'm just bored with their selection of phones. and I need 3 lines.
$500 per line is simply out of logic

well, Cingular charges up to $1000 for deposits, I'm not saying that it's correct but you also have to understand from a business point of view, that with cell phone fraud on the rise that carriers have to protect themselves from consumers that don't have a good amount of positive credit built up. They are not saying you are inferior or anything, it's just the paramiters of which they have chosen to protect themselves from having to pay for a consumers mistake of using service and not paying for it. I know that my fica score is 660 and I only qulify for 2 phones with T-Mobile and I work for them. 😛 good luck, ask any questions that you have, I am glad to answer any 🙂

go to a corporate store. the only time you should see a deposit like that outta t-mobile is if you faulted on them or your credit is all around bad. i think he was chargeing you a deposit for him and t-mobile.

and nextel is way, way, way, harder on credit unless you in an affiliate or partners area. deposits are no higher than $100.00 dollars. 😁

and cingular in my area highest deposit is 400 or 500 bucks. vzw is 1000 bucks in some areas of the states.

Yes. Once you have service then the CSR can call another dept that analyzes your pymt history and either approve or deny phones with 0 deposit. They only approve 1 new phone at 0 at a time, though. Have you tried having them run your mother's credit? You can also, as others have suggested, go to a T-Mobile corp store. Sometimes auth dealers are shady. I had a friend that an auth dealer told the Nokia 6010 was $100 because of his credit!

I will most certainly do that on my next day off, I would try cingular but cingular is pretty much bell south and at&t, and I know they are a bunch of crooks plus they have very negative rep with users, i'll try that for sure tho! maybe they were trying to make a proffit out of me or something, there is no tellin, you can't trust anyone anymore lol

Yeah deposits can surely suck big time.

I know you have your heart set on that pink RAZR but have you considered any other carriers or are the deposits coming out about the same everywhere you try??

You say you have Sprint now??? What about that new slim phone they have?? You can always spraypaint it pink!! (just joking)

i think the score is really low and that's why they required deposit. my friend (a non-resident alien - foreigner) had 680 or so after six months since he got his ssn. (he was required $250 deposit by t-mo.)

That is odd. When I signed on to T-Mobile back in 2003 I had no credit at the time, only beng 19, and I got 1 line with no deposit required! Cingular and AT&T Wireless each wanted 300-400 dollars for a single line!

I'm definitelly going to follow the avice that someone gave me here to go to a direct TMobile retailer not a re-seller, let's see if I get anything different. but yeah I understand from the business standpoint. I dunno I might have just have to stay with sprint. lol

You always get your deposits back after you've been with the company for a year. So you could just look at it like you're putting that 1500 into a savings. 🙂
