i took my little brother to the t-mobile store where he activated one line on a $39.99 1000 min plan a few months ago. being he just turned 18 he had to pay a $75.00 activation fee upfront (because he had no credit). recently he just got a laptop and has comcast internet but is saying the price is kicking him in the @$$. i suggested dsl but he wants to be like me 😁 and get a laptop card. so he can roam with his pc.

he is a smartacess customer for about four months. we know he cant add a line to his plan yet. so does this mean he cant get a laptop card yet also? or will he be paying a deposit? how does this work?

alright lets put it out on the table.. as a SMAX customer your borther has a few restrictions.. If he has a voice plan AND a data plan they combined cannot be over 50.00$. with that said.. Your brother can get the unlm internet plan (unlimited internet and 300 sms) for 29.99 but since hes smax the lowest pp is 29.99. the combination of the two is not possible so he would have either a voice plan or he can have the internet plan.. it sucks but thats the way the cookie crumbles.. On the good side.. with good pmt history he can become a reg customer in a year flat AND doo all the crazy shizzle his little heart desires.. 😛

i'm not talking about data from a phone. i'm talking an actual data air card for laptops.

so your telling me if he dropped his t-mobile phone service he can pick up a laptop aircard? 😕

we know in a year he can do what ever he wants 😛 but does that also include a laptop data air card?

No, he wouldn't be able to add the data plan to his voice plan, since it would put him over the $50 Smart Access limit. Since he is already on the $39.99, he can't add any more features that will put him over the limit. He has to wait til his 11th to 12th month, so T-Mobile can see if he is in good standing, and see what other services he qualifies for. Then maybe he can add- a line if he is in good standings and hasn't had any service disruptions for non-payment.

Aha! You're right. I hadn't even considered that. Sometimes people call something a "deposit" even when it's not such as a "non refundable" deposit to move into an apartment. It's not a deposit even though people claim that it is.

there's a trick he can do
get To Go kit or SIM
change plan to Basic Plus, then go to my T-Mobile>plan and services, pick a right device, and pick internet option
use moto V360 as modem/phone, or buy 6230 unlocked
use prepaid and Basic Plus wisely, and I don't think he'll not encounter problem
once he jump out from smartaccess, he can simply abandon the prepaid and change voice plan, just make sure he does it online to avoid losing internet
