T-MobileWeb on MDA

Does anyone know a way to make T-MobileWeb or T-zones work on the MDA? I don't need the full T-Mobile Internet package because most of my internet use will be done over Wi-Fi, but I do want to continue to have on-demand access for light use. If I have to pay $20+/month for a service I can get for $5 I think I'll have no option but to return the MDA and either switch to a non "smart" phone and pair it with a Bluetooth PDA or change carriers.

Actually, there is. I solicited solutions for this on both the T-Mobile thread and the HTC Wizard forums, but ultimately found a solution elsewhere...but I'll post it here:

It appears that the problem with the "cheap" internet packages is that T-Mobile has blocked port 80 (and several others) making it impossible to browse to http: pages. Regular phones are able to view the web because the WAP protocol runs on another port. T-Mobile customer service was clueless as to any way to make WAP pages work on a Windows Mobile device, however Windows Mobile 5.0 is capable of viewing both WAP and HTTP pages so the trick is to simply configure your device to use another port to get to these pages. You can accomplish this via a proxy as follows:

Considering how many people use T-Zones, I think there's quite a few. I know a lot more people who use Mobile Web on an infrequent basis to check news, traffic, weather, email, view account status, play J2ME or BREW games, or even download ringtone or something. It's certainly worth five or six bucks for that.

Personally, I don't need "full internet" when I'm actually mobile, and anywhere I'm likely to be for an extended period of time already has "full internet". The "fluff" of T-Zones and WAP is all that's missing.

(Besides, once the phone is configured that way, there's more than just the "basics" that work, but it's just the "basics" that I'm looking for.)
