T-809 as edge modem

I am having trouble using my phone as an edge modem. What are the steps for this? I keep getting a PPP link error.

1. install modem driver (pair each other)
2. check modem properties
3. advanced>add the following initial dialup string
+cgdcont=1,,"internet2.voicestream.com"
4. configure dialup
modem: T809 or bt modem
leave username and pwd blank
