Prepaid phone choice

Ok, since I use less than 150 min per month I will go with a prepaid plan. I don`t like the choice of prepaid phone from T-Mobile. What are my options?

1) Can I buy a Nokia 6010 (target 40$ + 60 min) and switch the SIM card in a phone that I buy on ebay (as long as it`s a GSM phone, previously used on T-Mobile)?

2) Can I buy a phone on ebay (as above) and just get a SIM card + then activate a prepaid plan? Where I would go for card and activation?

3) If I understood, I can also get any GSM phone and have it unlocked ... then switch the card ... true ?

Thank you for your help

Just an FYI:

You will be paying much more for your minutes by going prepaid. Prepaid costs roughly $.19 cents per minute when you buy 150 minutes, as you say you use. Postpaid (contract) service is only $.009 cents per minute for 3,180 minutes ($29.99 Basic Plus plan: 300 weekday Monday-Friday; 2,880 weekend: 24 hrs * 60 minutes per hour * 2 days). Not to mention, you get the unlimited weekends, 300 weekday, and access to T-Mobiles Roaming coverage AND a better selection of phones. Who cares about the contract, right? Go postpaid my friend. 😉

No, I will buy 1000 minutes (0.10$/min) with T-mobile ... will last 8-10 months for 100$ ...For a year this will cost me a maximum of 150$. Any post paid plan will cost +350$.

I got 2 year experience with a cell phone. I know the usage I do with it and it's never been more than 150 minutes per month. Just looking at the $ per minute is totaly wrong ... you have to look at your needs (number of minute + when you use the phone) and look cost overall for the year.

So I will stick with prepaid my friend 😁

Thank you for your opinion.

Do you *really* think anyone gets on the phone at 12 midnight Friday and talks constantly til 11:59 pm Sunday night?

Hey check out www.unlimited-prepaid.com! They offer unlimted anytime minutes and unlimited text on PREPAID for $99 dollars a month. It's a little more that metro pcs or cricket but it's nationwide, you get a local number no matter where you live and anyone can use it anywhere in the country.

If you spend the $100 up front your mins will last a year and you will be a gold rewards member and get more mins when you add-on. You can get a phone off ebay and just buy the sim card at any t-mobile store for $50 but that phone will not be covered under our one year warranty so if anything happens to it you're out a phone. You can buy any phone T-mobile sells and make it prepaid, but you're going to pay the full MSRP for the phone plus the $50 for the prepaid activation.

Not all GSM phones work to their full capacity when they are unlocked and a sim is put in. You may miss out of some features, but hey if it's the phone you want go for it.

Care to tell us what features don't work when you use an unlocked handset? AFAIK all features will work but you may need to access them differently or you may need to have the settings sent to you OTA.

Buy the phone from T-Mobile and get the $100 card and you are set. You just need to use the prepaid service at least once every 60 day (technically 90 days), because if you don't they will deact for inactivity.

you CAN buy any phone as long as it is t-mobile usa, or unlocked for GSM.

advice is to get a nokia, they are easier to send OTA for carrier specific features (t-zones, mms, etc.)

or check out Flexpay. a little easier to manage, but prepaid is great since you do not use many minutes. You do, however, get less coverage... which most people wouldn't be affected by, unless you like to wonder in the forest or desert.
