Buy a phone in EU...use it in NA?

I'm going to switch to T-Mobile but I'll be traveling to England soon. Can I buy a phone there (like the RAZR V3i) and then bring it back to the U.S. and then sign up for T-Mobile?

I ask because I see on the T-Mobile UK site there are better phones than the ones you can get here in the U.S.

Thanks.

as long as the phone supports 850/1900 and SIM unlocked, you should be fine

It will work fine except you may have a problem with voicemail notification unless you do a "seem" edit or at least that's what's been the story with the regular Moto V3/Razrs.
