So you are saying that you've actually tried it? Have the calls to your 5 My Faves Numbers been billing for free? What kind of handset do you have?
I am so fed up with this topic even though it has started only recently within these past f...

From your gist, I take it that you are a store rep if I'm not mistaken. Which location? I am asking in the even it becomes possible for me to visit your store then I will do so.

once customer care realizes that your handset doesn't have a matching myfaves IMEI they will call and tell you that they are going to have to switch you back to the regular emp plan until you get a myfave capable handset. I was doing the same thing with my pebl and they called my on friday and said they were going to switch it back until i got a myfaves handset with a matching IMEI. Just a heads up
...
I still using my PEBL I think you just got unlucky nobody In my store or anybody I have activated has been called. 😎

The reason Myfaves is only sold with a myfaves phone, is because they want the customer to have the software. It's designed to help with the experience and keep the customer from getting confused as to who is or isn't on their myfaves list. Yes you can manage your contacts from t-mobiles website, but they want you to be able to see your favorites list on the phone.

Good point but I think I can access My T-Mobile from my phone (BB 8700g). so whenever I'd want to change this, it will be possible to do so. I won't need to rely upon an external PC.

That is so, but the myfaves software doesn't just allow you to change your faves from the phone. When you have a myfaves phone on a myfaves plan, it activates the myfaves software in the phone. When its activated, you see 5 circles on the main screen of the phone. These circles are for you myfaves numbers. This is not only where you set up your myfaves numbers, but you call, text message, picture message, or leave a voice mail from this main screen. You can also apply an icon or picture to each of your faves.
So, when you open your phone, you see pictures of you favorite people and call them from that front screen.

pretty cosmetic to me... I've got a pearl, but i still dial from my phonebook... I don't see the point other than that 👀
...
They are trying to make myfive almost as popular as my top 8 on myspace it marketing kid. 😎
...
same here... i never turn the myFaves bubbles on on my pearl unless I am editing one.
...
FWIW there will likely be an update for the 8700g soon that adds myFaves.
...
Of course they do the onlly point I was making was that you dont have to have one. 😎
...
LOL actually you do need a myfave capable phone. sorry to disappoint. like someone else said customer service will call you back and inform you you must either but a capable phone or switch back.
...
I hear that corporate has been sending warnings to employees not to activate a myFaves rateplan on a non myFaves phone, so activate people on one of those without the phone at your own risk!
...
you can have the myFave employee rate plan w/o having a myFave capable phone. 2 reps in my store have been on it since launch. It was employee care who told them they could do it, so I doubt they would call back saying you have to switch. Other dood who got a call prob wasn't an employee.
...
oh really because here i am weeks later and still surprise surprise have my myfaves I am using a t-309 so obviously you are dumb bohdisha. 😎
...
Does anyone know for sure if you have to have a myFaves capable phone for the service? I know it will work without it, but does anyone know if customer care will call and make you switch? The phone(s) I am looking at are not myFaves capable according to the T-Mo website.
Thanks.

you will be fine my whole family is on myfaves nobody including me has a faves phone. 😎
...
What can the reps & 611 actually agree on. They always told me 2 different things and probably will for other customers as well.
...
you seem to type in every forum too. So what was your point?
...
This is true. I have a myfaves plan without a myfaves phone, and it works fine for me. My calls are rated as free ones. T-Mobile does not want reps to sell this feature with non myfaves phones as it does not provide the "total experience". I've had myfaves activated for 2 billing cycles now and it works fine. I just have to go online if I want to update it. When you change your plan to a myfaves one, the customer care rep will ask you for the imei of the phone to verify that it is a myfaves phone. So you will need to have that. Enjoy!

Is the myFaves software not just downloadable for phones...?
I'm purchasing a Motorola v635 which is not a myFaves phone and am interested in subscribing to the plan but wonder if I can not just download the myFaves software onto it, to ensure that it works with the plan...?
I keep reading mixed results from people who are subcribing to myFaves, either it works for someone and not another...
Does the software just add "ease of use" for navigating / configuring myFaves preferences? Kinda "dummy-proofing" the whole thing? I've seen it said that I can do all that through MyT-Mobile anyway, right...? So the v635 should be fine on a myFaves plan...?
Also, why does T-Mobile need my IMEI number...? Just to verify whether or not it is my...

So today I spoke to a CS rep at the T-Mobile store...
He said that the myFaves is just software but you can't download it onto any ol' phone...
He also went on to say that you HAVE to have a myFaves-compatible / installed phone in order for the plan to work correctly as the software is the only way that T-Mobile knows who is on your myFaves list and that's the only way you get the free calling (This was after I asked if you can configure myFaves through the "myT-Mobile" website area and he said "Yes"...🙂...
He went so far as to say if you don't dial your myFave contact from the myFaves software / screen, if you just call "Bob" from your phone book, you will be charged for the call...
I don't really believe he has all the informa...

No, he was a bit off, here is the scoop:
1) No, the software is not downloadable to a non-myFaves phone, it is a part of the core operating system on the phone and is not available in a downloadable foramt.
2) When you either create/update a myFaves contact either through the interface, on my.t-mobile.com or through customer care it puts that number into a database on the back end. Anytime you call that number or get a call from that number it checks in the database to see if its one of your faves, if it is it rates as a myFaves call. To rate as a myfaves call the number just has to be in your current faves and T-Mobile has to be able to see what number is calling and what numberis called. If someone in your myfaves blocks their caller...

Just to let you guys know, there is no guarantee that you'll be able to keep your My Favs plan if you don't use a My Faves phone. I had a coworker who tends to switch phones almost daily, and one of the phones she uses is My Faves. She ended up getting switched back to a non My Faves plan and had to jump through hoops to get it back, even though one of the phones is a My Faves.
...
I think "my faves" is a great idea myself. I'm sure like any other service like this, there are problems here and there, but overall, a winner!
T-Mobile, by the way, holds the second spot in both customer service and reliability by both Consumer Reports and J.D. Powers & Associates, only beat out by VZW. Nothing to sneeze at. For those of you who say that doesn't matter, well, that's your opinion, and not shared by the two most trusted names in consumer ratings in the U.S.A.
...
I have been told by many t-mobile representatives that my faves will work with a non my faves phone as it has nothing to do with the software on the phone. You can update and change everything on my faves via the my-t-mobile web site. The software on the phone simply gives you easier access to change things around but in no means is it required. So the answer is yes my faves will work on a phone that doesn't have the my faves software on it.
