Well it is the moment everyone has been waiting for and here are the details: (right from the press release) It looks like I was correct with the timeframe of the roll out and the completed roll out.

"NEW YORK (AP) -- T-Mobile USA laid out the plan Friday for the $4.2 billion in wireless spectrum it won in a recent federal auction, saying it expects to spend nearly $2.7 billion on a network upgrade that can deliver mobile multimedia capabilities it hasn't been able to offer like its rivals.

The rollout of the next generation network is scheduled to start during the current quarter and be completed in 2009, with "most of the work" completed by 2008, T-Mobile and corporate parent Deutsche Telekom AG of Germany said in a statement.

first off congrats to tmobile for getting there ass in gear and making something happen. now to my ? from a consumer standpoint. why would I want to wait for 1 maybe 2 years to really enjoy these services when I can go join the other big 3 who already have a very strong 3g network? I think from a wireless industry worker that tmobile will still suffer during deployment but afterwords....who knows its definitely will be fun to watch.

I'm not sure totally why you're taking a pessimistic view of this. T-Mobile had to make a national network over *ten* years after the original cellular providers brought out service in 1983. Many of those companies that are the "big guys" had the deep pocke...

I definitely give props to tmobile for what they have done. they will for sure be a strong contender in the couple of years. but my question was meant to come from a consumer standpoint. for most of them they would not understand your answer. as an example I am a new cell user between today and whenever . when I compare companies for data servies, air cards, pdas, I would not consider tmobile right now. this is what has hurt them in the past and will continue to hurt them for the next year or so. after deployment though as a consumer if tmobile continues to offer low prices even with 3g they will be a force to recon with.

And all I can say is that you didn't bother to read what I wrote about why T-Mobile is behind. It does absolutely no good to yammer about the shortcomings of T-Mobile since they have been hamstrung and couldn't offer 3G services *even if they wanted to* since you need the resources to do that. Without the spectrum *you cannot do it!* It's sure not that they didn't want to be on par with other carriers. Where would Sprint be if they hadn't combined with Nextel? Where would cingular be if they hadn't swallowed up AT&T Wireless?

Yes, congratulations for T-mobile for successfully getting that 3G spectrum they desperately needed. Well, they can go after customers who aren’t happy with the current pricing in for example the areas where the other carriers aren’t currently in the area or they could put it in those areas and offer a product/price that cant be beat. I mean people are signing up with T-mobile pretty nicely even when you made that point of other carriers have stronger networks. I will be definitely worried about T-mobile going into the future especially against Cingular and Verizon.

Exactly. T-Mobile has grown their customer base considerably over the couple of years and continues to do so without the 3G services. I think they were a contender beforehand but now it's a lot more serious. As far as waiting two years for the deployment to occur, I think quite a few customers are willing to wait for 3G services from T-Mobile because it will be cheaper and hopefully better. Don't expect to be able to watch tv on your handset though.

we can't say desperate
but as I said many times
T-Mobile utilize 3G is more than just launch advanced data and video conference
T-mobile still don't have native coverage in some area due to lack of 2g license, this'll be fixed through 3g
