Call tmobile and they should be able to help you out. If it is going on a regular plan be sure to add the sidekick a data plan.

Just put your sim card in it and have the $20 sidekick feature added to your plan

Since you got it off Ebay make sure you put the insureance on it. If anything happens to it you have no warranty to cover it and you'll have to upgrade your contract to get a new one. The insurance is 5.99 a month with a $110 deductible.
If you go into any driect store they can help out with activating it.

I believe you that they didn't give you insurance, but as a T-Mobile rep I have had many customers have second hand, purchased on EBay, Craigslist, or whatever, SK's covered by Asurion. Just like anything else it is up to Asurion whether or not they want to cover you, just like it's up to T-Mobile if they want to give you service.
This is Asurion's online claim site and it has the coverage policy for T-Mobile phones http://www.phoneclaim.com

Back to the topic, if the phone was previously used you will probably need to contact T-Mobile Technical Services to have them remove the prior users userid from the IMEI of your phone. (this only applies to Sidekicks)
If it pop ups someone else's userid and asks for a password and you can't change the user id, thats what you need to do.
