With the merger and all...

would it be wise to join Nextel now? Should I wait?

If not, I was thinking about getting the i860 or the i830/i833. Which one is best?

Thanks!

Wait for what?? New technologies? They are at least 3 years off if not longer.

Buy the latest model phone and it will serve you well up to the deployment of the next generation technology, whatever it may be.

All of Nextel's phones are the same exact thing, they all just vary different in size and shape, and one happens to have a camera. Past that, it's the same sh*t. I just switched from Nextel due to very unreliable service. I live in the Chicagoland area.

You should definitely wait. The blending of the 2 different networks and all of the programs reps use to govern the accounts is gonna be a nightmare. Save yourself from the headaches.

Oh pleeeze. You won't see a technology merger for at least 3 years. Sprint NEXTEL won't be able to deploy CDMA in 800 MHz until the Public Safety Band swap is done and only when that is completed will they be able to populate the 1.9 GHz "G" Block that NEXTEL was awarded.

He will get his monies worth out of any current model NEXTEL phone he purchases now.

There is not a plan to migrate CDMA to the 800 MHz of Nextel. The 1.9 GHz will be used for new technologies, possibly some use for EVDO as well, but not voice. Nextel is scrapping plans to deploy Flarion since Sprint is releasing EVDO.

Join now. Nothing will change for a long time, and by then you could upgrade anyway. 😁
As for all nextel phones being the same.. They aren't. I'd go with i860. It has awesome features. At least stay away from anything below the i730. Nextel doesn't want to activate anything any older, and will give you a hard time about it. The reason they switched to color screens and smaller sized sim cards. They hold more memory tho. Customer care said to with the newer phones and you won't have any problems. Hope that helped.
