Fleet Call's main business was radio dispatching.

this could help you too with fleet call.. http://www.heavydutytrucking.com/2002/05/045a 0205.asp

"Nextel Communications, which has quietly won over many regional fleets, could become a major competitor in truckload and longhaul markets — particularly among small fleets.
In Nextel fleets dispatchers can reach drivers by cell phone call, by text message or by what Nextel calls Direct Connect, a service that turns a Nextel handset into a two-way radio or walkie-talkie. If you've ever noticed a driver holding a cell phone away from his face while talking and listening, you've probably seen Direct Connect in action.

Hey, thanks alot again! That was really informative. I was just really curious as to how they started up and all that because someone on the post mentioned that they were with Nextel ever since they were called FleetCall and it just sparked my curiousity, thanks again! 😁

you are very welcome and i am glad to help you...

it is very amazing how a company that targeted trucking people, taxi cabs and things of that nature can now be a very powerful wireless company nationwide. no one thought they could do it, but they proved them wrong. its unbelivable.

It was new, innovative, had new technologies never seen before so of course everyone was skeptical about it, and of course ridiculed it. So Porsche decided to enter it into the Dakar Rally. Then the skepticism and ridicule turned into a laughing matter.

Some months later the first few cars passed the finish line. In 1st, 2nd, and 4th were Porsche 959. They said they couldn't do it and they did. Seems like Nextel was in the same boat. I'm sure people ridiculed and were skeptical about Nextel's efforts to become something they weren't. But they did it and obviously it's employ...

i like your analogy between the Porsche and nextel i htink it makes a lot of sense.

yea.. after the failure of the buyout of nextel deal didnt fall through all over price, that is when a lot of people doubted nextel. in the years of 2000-2002 was their biggest problem becuase they had debt of about 18 or so billion dollars and banks and other analysts told them to file for chapter 11. nextel said no, and now they have debt of under 10 billion dollars with great cash flow, and with some cash on its balance sheet. they also are beating all of the other providers when it comes to churn, arpu, and lifetime revenue per user as well as other things, but total subs..

but with the merger of nextel and sprint, i strongly belive that it could ...
