question for nextel18?
Is Nextel currently using 3:1 or are they on 6:1? I have seen in a couple of other threads I believe that Nextel is going to switch to 6:1, and when this happens service as far as rf will improve! Any truth to this? Also I saw that only the i860 will truly be supported on this 6:1 if I'm far off in what I'm saying please let me know!

they are upgrading on their network to the 6:1 voice coder, however, not in all areas, just in some areas that needs that extra capacity. once thats on the network, since all of the 3 digit phones have the split 3:1 (6:1 voice coder) in then, you should have it activated on the network. it should improve RF. its just like saying before you had 3 users on 1 channel this is 6 users on one channel. so one can assume that it will infact enhance capacity and RF performance. we will see, though. the word that i am getting is that so far it has improved RF a bit, so we will see when they roll it out in all markets (or most.) no, all of the 3 digit phones have the voice coder on them.

You don't happen to know if Chicago is one of those markets that will use the 6:1 do you? And if so is there any timeframe? for Chicago?
...
Chicago need this bad, I know numerous people using Nextel here and you can't get calls through to them at times and they are getting fed up. The only reason they are using the service is that they are all in the construction field and need the two way.

if there are problems up there in chicago then they will deploy the split 3:1 there.
