Total subs
=====

Verizon= 45.45 million

Cingular= 50.37 million

Nextel/sprint= 44.71 million
------------------------

Sub growth for 1st and second quarter

Cingular=
1st quarter= 1.4 million
2nd quarter= 1.07 million

Nextel/sprint=
1st quarter= 2.1 million
2nd quarter= 1.45 mill (1.25 million including affiliates numbers)

Verizon=
1st quarter= 1.64 million
2nd quarter= 1.9 million

Looks pretty good for the top 3 carriers in the United States with total subscribers and sub growth for the 1st and second quarter and I will continue to look for this growth in the future. As you can see verizon did a lot better in the first and second quarter then cingular, while sprint/Nextel did better in the 1st and 2nd...

I just noticed now, since I was at class, that I have an error with the total subscribers at the end of the 2nd quarter I forgot to add verizon’s and cingular’s numbers with their 2nd quarter numbers, and I apologize.

It should read as follows;

Vzw= 47.4 million

Cingular= 51.6 million

The new S (sprintel) = 44.71 million

The sub growth per quarter stays the same.

So that means verizon is about 2.69 million ahead of sprintel and 4.2 million behind cingular, while sprintel is 6.9 million subscribers behind cingular.

I apologize again.

There's your error: Sprint and Nextel are still separate companies. That's one big error.

I can see quoting Sprint/Nextel's combo numbers after the merger has been completed...but right now, as well as for Q2, they are two separate companies and need to be figured as such.
good luck in Q3!

Governmental approval is only one step to the merging process. Once the paperwork is finalized and all of the lawsuits have been settled will this merger be complete.
Also, last I checked, August is part of Q3, so your assessment of the phantom "Sprintel" is still incorrect. It's not like News Corp. can take credit for DirecTV's 2003 pre-merger activations.

Wrong. they are merged and thats final. a few weeks till it closes but they still have merged officially. lawsuits in this case doesnt mean much from the affiliates, the fcc and doj have expressed that and that is why they gave the nod. its a done deal and i will treat it like that. sorry.

He's got a point, If the lawsuits had merit the FCC and DOJ especially would NOT have given the go-ahead.

Everyone has a point, KC and I acknowledged his point, however, the FCC and the doj did not care about it and they said basically to let them duke it out. They will be bought out anyway, the affiliates that is, that is why the FCC and the doj did not find any problems with that.
