outside of the obvious (i.e., button-activated flip, external screen, possible others that don't come to mind right away) can any1 point out some major differences?

mainly concerned about price and reception

somewhat concerned about OS / user-friendliness

1. it uses 900mhz of spectrum.
2. digital off netework walkie talkie service
3. up to 6 miles.
4. on 3 phones.

how it works? basically like a regular walkie talkie but over the 900mhz spectrum and with those 3 phones within a 6 mile radius when the network is out.

same way as those regular two way radios found in radio shack and best buy and those types of stores.

Reception is a HUGE difference in my area. I ditched my 860 for the 850 and the difference is like night and day.

so it works basically the same as the regular two-way radio that my dad has in his hunting pack except that it can only be used accross up to three party members?

my dad's 2-ways can broadcast to a whole bunch of people at one time, and they only have to be on the same channel...they don't even have to have the same type of radio...

so basically, this feature doesn't really help me to hang on to a PTT conversation as i enter a rural area, does it?
