Sprint Nextel looks forward to battle with new AT&T
"Sprint's CFO has painted a rosy picture for the carrier in the quarters ahead, especially because of the company's alliance with four major cable companies to offer subscribers "quadruple play" services--video, voice, data and wireless--a "paradigm of growth the RBOCs don't have." Sprint's alliance with the cablecos will provide massive amounts of content for Sprint's MobiTV service, the company said. Sprint Nextel also "looks forward" to competing against the "AT&T Wireless" brand, which many believe Cingular Wireless will become following the merger of its parent companies, BellSouth and AT&T. The AT&T Wireless brand had a reputation for terrible customer service but is still one of the most widely known brands in the country. "

Now, interesting. With Nint spinning off the Sprint (wireline) side of things and AT&T being blown to pieces and purposely putting itself back together again... I'm missing something... That leads me to believe that breaking Sprint apart creates nothing more than a place to hide debt.

yea, alltel also is spinning off their local wireline business and obviously sprint is too and i think that is a good idea becuase not only will it allow sprint to focus its efforts on wireless, but more importantly is that it allows to get rid of the $7.5 billion from sprint's books and it is legal.
well, when they are spinning off these businesses obviously they will have agreements and ties and stakes in/with the companies and as mentioned above can focus more on their wireless units.
one of the main reasons of spinning the wireline off is that their growth is slowing and dying down so that will impact earnings.
