IDEN(PTT) vs. Kodiak RTX(PTT)

i have a question for anyone who's an expert on nextel's iden technology and kodiak rtx,

how exactly does PTT work on iden and kodiak rtx, and which one is faster, im aware that ampd, and cingular(which i have), uses kodiak rtx,

im just curious about the technology(PTT) and how did cingular integrate kodiak rtx on to their network,

and if you have any experiences or opinions, that will be cool,

im in a learning mood and im bored 🤣

i hope cingular's ptt get as popular as nextel's, cingular needs to push more phones out with ptt and the manufacturers need to make it standard on their phones,

only if people realize that ptt is more convient and cheaper than text messaging(which i do a lot)

im making a similar thread...

Nextels PTT connects in under a second, (1/4 of a second to be exact). while kodiak takes up to 2-3 seconds to connect.

iDEN (based on TDMA) was built for PTT. Exceeds any other PTT solution in every metric: connect set-up, latency, etc.

Not for nothing, unless the solution can at least 'match' Moto/iDEN there is no reason to release it. I'm hearing that the Q-Chat from Qualcomm being tested on EV-DO comes close and it will be used to someone replace iDEN to prevent Sprint from baby-sitting two imcompatable networks.

Not that I'm a Cingy basher but their marketing spoiled them from the start. When Cingy was created it catered to the individual and individuality blah blah blah. Now they want the business segment back? Leave it to the professionals...

I couldn't agree more on the convenience of PTT. God, every wanna-be race car driver, constr...

ur not a cingular basher but i think cingy should had better marketed their ptt capabilities like availability(im avail, im avail but silent, dont disturb), direct to voicemail, convert to regular call, iden is faster but they should had marketed the fact that cingy's ptt has more features

the beauty of competition lol

well you could look on their website and look at their whitepapers... but basically Kodiak uses the voice channels, which can be a bad thing if there are any problems. direct connect, nextel's baby, uses a lot less bandwidth then what Kodiak and other push to talk solutions use that is why when it is 1 or no bars direct connect will still work properly.

rtx; call set up; 2-5 seconds. intra call= less than 1 second. can be easily integrated over voice infrastructure.

iden; call set up= less than 1 second. intra calling= 500ms.

cingular might have an edge over nextel becuase of their coverage size and data but when qchat comes out and the dual mode phones come out in october, cingular wont have a chance..

kodiak ptt uses voice over ip, its slow because when you speak it is compressed uploaded to the network downloaded to the receivers phone and then de compressed. The only possible benefit of kodiak is future inter-carrier compatibility. But im sure thats a long ways off simply due to marketing and such.

yea, the problem with using your voice channels is that if you have any problems the push to talk wont work, but that is the opposite with nextel. even if you have "no bars" you can still make a dc call, but with cingular's its very difficult too. ( i have tested myself)

it has nothing to do with marketing it has to deal with billing.

if kodiak transmits over voice channels, what does direct connect transmit over, data?

and with ptt i dont care about the time but i like the extra features that kodiak rtx has but i would say that both are good, sprint could add more features to direct connect on iden as well, i guess what your trying to say(nextel 1😎 that time is very important when you need to use ptt
