Does Nextel charge it's customers to port their numbers? I work for another carrier, and I have a customer who wants to port his 2 numbers, and he was told there would be a $25 charge to do the port. Is this true?

no no charge at all.

most likely the customer went to another store and thought to try and make a quick buck

He didn't go to a store, that came from customer service. He found out when he called in to have the lock taken off since Nextel apparently locks their numbers so customers can't port without calling in. And that came from nextel cs as well.

is this 'port protection' a nation wide thing. I am only wondering because when I ported my number over to verizon i didnt run into any trouble at all and there was no charge.

Its an optional feature that you can add to your Nextel account to "keep your number from accidently being ported" by somebody else. 🙄

However I have never seen anybody charged to remove it.
