Well, they obviously want to sell it because they have been getting a lot of interest from PE, LBO, or regular strategic interests.

Agreed.. the interest in a sale is definitely there. I think this time around, a sale will definitely happen. The only remaining questions now becomes the "who". Smaller regional carriers are out. The USCellular speculation is rather weird. Alltel uses a very different type of technology than USC.

In the end, my money still goes on Sprint/Nextel for the buyout partner. They have very compatible and comparable technologies on their towers. Alltell is already a Sprint roaming partner, etc... This matchup would make a great deal of sense and would give both sides what they want. Sprint's Power content and Alltel's towers.

Technology difference does not really make a difference because they could always do a dual mode device so that is not 100% out of the question. Of course it would be better if there would be a strategic player coming into play so that there will be synergies from the deal. Private equity definitely has the money, but synergies would not be realized but at least they would be able to restructure the business and then put it public in a few years after the restricting.

Yea USC does not make sense because they cannot afford a company such as Alltel.
Verizon obviously would not be passed regulatory muster without heavy divestitures.
Yea, I do agree that Sprint will probably be the likelihood buyer because of what you talked about as wel...

Sprint can't afford Alltel at this time. They don't have the Nextel "thing" running even close to the way it needs to run!!!!! Everyone knows that. They should have bought Alltel instead of Nextel. Verizon can't afford Alltel at this time, they don't own their own company!!!!! Why would they buy it now? If it sells, it will be bought by a cable company with a ****load of money or a private equity firm/company. The family who owns TDS could be a part of that firm/company. You didn't hear it from me. Is that logical enough Nextfag18? I think I hear your bitch fonefag calling your name. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Here you go again with your swearing, no analysis and sound reasoning, and your lack of intelligence when it comes to business.
Any company can afford another company if the correct funds are there when it comes to investments and bonds as well as how much can they leverage without hurting their investment grade materially.

Sprint can definitely afford Alltel and Verizon can do also, but a likely buyout would be Sprint with Alltel not Verizon due to many regulatory issues that will make them divest many assets, which won’t be worth it. There will be synergies from both deals but it would be more beneficial for Sprint especially since they are continuing to seek and recognize the $14B in NPV from the Sprint/Nextel merger.
Verizon won’...

Different ends of the spectrum though. USCC operates at a higher frequency I believe.

USCC is an CDMA operator in the 800/850 MHz with a limited amount of 1900 MHz spectrum.

They run both. Alltel also runs both. All it is, is a frequency difference. All of alltel's phones run on the PCS band (1900) and the cellular band (850). Jacksonville is one of alltel's PCS markets. VZW and Cingular use both frequencies as well. It is the same technology so it only requires the one "chip" in the phone. So, CDMA is the same whether it is on the 1900 or 850 band, it just travels differently. Carriers often prefer the PCS band in some areas because it can handle more traffic then cellular. But cellular is better for other areas because of building penetration and it can travel further from the tower then PCS.
