Well I upgraded yesterday to this phone.(actually the first one to get it in my town).

Let me say, it is VERY impressive. Light as a razor, twice the power.
I got mine for a lean $100 with 2 year contract and a $50 rebate.

-Reception is superb, I get 2 bars where my old phone got No Service.
-Very slim and light, no longer doe's it look like I'm 'Happy' to see someone just because my phones in my pocket.
-Clear, big and bright screen

Love everything about it except...
The keypad is somewhat difficult to get used to, with no key indentations texting can be a bit difficult.

Sorry to hear about the slider, but maybe you can answer another question for me:

What color did you get, and how is it for dust and fingerprints?

I got the Blue.
And honestly, I can't even notice finger prints on this color.

working for Alltel gives me a little insight into the phones. I like the 8600 a lot (i picked one up on day two).

No fingerprints are noticeable because of the transparency off the colors. The only complaint I have is that when using a memory card, i hit the keys on the outside and it loads up music randomly.

I'm pretty sure that that can be fixed by changing a few settings. But it just seems pesky to me.

I agree as well with the keyboard. It takes a good three or four days to get used to it. I'm not a fan of the T9 formatting either. I like Motorola's better.

Overall. I'd give it an 8.5-10.

Reception- above average to excellent
Software- Excellent
Durability- Solid (its survived two big drops on accident)
Charging port- No...
