New phone problems

A friend just got an Alltel prepaid phone which immediately upon activation was inundated with voicemail and possibly other messages which very soon left him with little in his account. He back and forthed with Alltel a couple of times and they recharged his account and blocked certain features (voicemail perhaps). Anyway, I'm wondering if they gave him a number that someone else had discarded because they were fed up with the junk calls? Is what happened to him known to happen with Alltel prepaid phones? Thanks

Seeing as how most numbers now a days are recycled i can see how this is possable, I would just ask for a diff number after removing the svcs if the calls stop then you can readd the svc back. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the fact that it is an Alltel prepayed cell.

I don't know how numbers are recycled in Alltel, but in many others they hold them for up to 6 months before they re-issue them. However, that may not be enough time for some of these kinds of issues to clear up. It is possible. I agree with Ducati, get another number, that should fix your problem.

Thanks for the replies. I'll pass on your advice.

There's a period of 6-12 months where old MDN #'s are held by Alltel so users can "forget" them, after the period they are re-issued to new customers...Requesting a new MDN would prob fix this issue real fast.
