ALLTEL TO OFFER UNLIMITED NATIONAL CALLING PLANS?

biotechrep

I heard a rumor that alltel will be offering an unlimited calling plan to their line up. This could be to pump up sales numbers before Verizon announces the merger on July 1.

Whatever, I hope I can upgrade to it.....

Forgive my ignorance...I have been a little out of the loop lately...

I just went to work for Alltel in Waynesboro, VA, which is a Verizon market as well. I have been working in the store there since 4/16 (the day of the tragic events at Virginia Tech), and next week, I will be going to Virginia Beach for two weeks of company based training. To be honest, I hadn't heard of any merger whatsoever, and I hear a lot of stuff.

In spite of what some folks are saying about the Alltel phone lineup, from what I see, there is quite a bit of diversity. The one piece that I have heard the most negative comments about since getting back into the cellular arena is the Motorola Q. The LG's, particularly the 8600 in the three colors, looks like a terrific phone. There are also Samsungs, Motorolas, and, at the moment, ...

Verizon is not purchasing Alltel. You will have a blast at training in Virginia Beach, I know I did. We went out every single night...

As much I would like to see Verizon Wireless expand (since I am a Verizon Wireless user), I however would like to see them do some further expansion on their own. Verizon will likely do that, especially with the the few 700 band licenses left to be auctioned off. What I would like to see is Alltel try to do some further expansion of their own, and while wishful thinking, try to utilize some of the PCS licenses they have to expand their network, instead of solely relying on trying to acquire cellular band licenses (which are impossible to get in the top 10 m...

I went out a few nights, but not every night. 8 AM comes too damned early for nightowls, so I was a good boy. Had some great food down there, and got to the ocean a bit just to walk around on the beach. I tell you, that salt air does wonders!

Who was your trainer, and when were you there? Where is your store?

Anyone on this forum that knows anything about Alltel will back me up on this one! Alltel is a family ran business, and has been from the get go. For Scott Ford, selling Alltel would be selling the family business. A few years ago a couple of high ranked officals told Scott Ford to shove it and went to Verizon. Therefore, merging with Verizon would be like Satan merging with Jesus Christ. LOL, but I sure do love gossip!!

I do not know one way or another, nor do I really care if the two merge or not. But just because Alltel is a family ran business means nothing. If you line someones pocket with enough money, everything is for sale. so, we have a couple months to find out if this rumor is true or not.

And for the unlimited national plans that alltel is maybe coming out with, if verizon does buy alltel, enjoy it, because when the contract is up, I am sure those plans are gone.

Alltel and Verizon are not merging. The closest deal that I've heard to a merger, was with Sprint, which fell apart over money.

Also, the only carrier to offer an "unlimited national calling plan", is Ntelos, and it's $99.99 per month, per line.

Actually money is the main issue why Alltel is having problems securing a buyer as well as conditions the board and management want.

True, but I think the management team issue is relativly minor compared to the actual dollar per share issue.

Well management and the board really have a huge say here but a $30B price is a bit much and if they want a seat or some conditions with the new company they will have to come down in price, which they won’t do, of course because that isn’t really in the interest of shareholders. I actually am a shareholder of Alltel, and I would rather see a $30B price tag than a $25B or $27B price target with some conditions, and I am sure the 77% or so of outstanding shareholders think the same.

It shall be interesting as Alltel continues to grow in their markets, but I do think they will be bought out within a year or so. It just makes sense but whom will buy? AT&T obviously will not. Verizon? Possibly but will the synergies outweigh the divestitures...

To be honest, I'd love to see a Sprint/Alltel deal happen, as long as the Alltel rate structure is adopted in the new company, and the billing department for Sprint gets it's junk together. I'm not even certain that I care if Scott is at the top of the chain, or just near it, as long as I still have a great product, and excellent plan offerings for my customers, and great pay.

I think that a deal between those two companies brings the most to the table for everyone involved.

Well it does sound like a good idea but even at that, $30B price tag is a lot for this kind of company that Sprint does not really need its entirety. Sprint just needs to add perhaps more towers, which can never hurt, and AT’s customers. Those are the only 2 real things that Sprint needs. Perhaps it is more important to say that Sprint needs just customers and not towers as it has a lot plus the Nextel towers. We obviously know Sprint doesn’t need spectrum, so to pay $30B just for 12 million or so customers is a bit much but on a valuation basis it is quite cheap and industry purchasing standards.

It is interesting and Alltel helps Sprint in the prepaid area as well as the postpaid. So it does complement each other, problem is again, pric...

I would think an agreement could be made around the 25 billion mark.

I doubt it since it is really close to the current market value and if it was to go through major concessions is to be made.
