Depends for what your reason for switching is.
I had Alltel all through highschool, i switched to SunCom for like a year when i went to college and I went right back to Alltel. I can't speak for everybody, but I've had great service with them and the plan prices seem to be very good. With MyCircle and free mobile to mobile, youll never run out of minutes (almost all my friends have Alltel too). However, one drawback is that they do not have all the newest or the best phones. As far as prices and service is concerned, go for it. If you want the newest phones, this isn't the carrier for you. Hope that helped some.

We offer amazing service, excellent rates, and have some of the best phones currently available on the CDMA market.

I don't think you'll be unhappy with the change!

i agree
i switched tmo to alltel because of better reception and my circle
my friend from verizon to alltel because of prices--so far she said the recepption is identicals to verizons, she had verizon for 5 years.

lookup how good the reception is for alltel where your at, see is as good as verizons.

i got the lg 8600 and it pretty much does everything i need it to do and more, then again theres not alot to pick from, but i fairly got a better phone than i had with tmo.

just do some more research and hopefully your decision will be the best.

I went to work for Alltel direct, but only recently did I drop my Verizon service after eight years of spectacular service because I couldn't get a local number where I live (Charlottesville, VA). I have had the National Freedom 900 plan on my personal line now for one month, and it is every bit as good as Verizon, if not better in some spots that I go through. I've also used the phone around my old DC area a few days, and absolutely no problem whatsoever.

I, too, wish that we could see some really snazzy phones on the Alltel lineup. However, unless there are some new pieces in the pipeline already, put the blame squarely where it belongs, and that's this stupid lawsuit in which Qualcomm and Broadcom are involved. Until that is sett...

so you really think its a little better than verizon?????

ive heard a few people say that--before changing to alltel i was going to go for verizon, i was stuck for a long time. i wanted the best reception--so far so good. my friend with verizon wants to switch so bad but shes scared to loose her good reception, i dont think she will 😁

I'm simply saying that I have found that where I am, in the Shenandoah Valley, I am getting service in a couple of Verizon dead zones. When you factor in the My Circle feature, it almost is a no-brainer. I would ask you to ask your friend to look at the maps of the different plans, and be absolutely honest...do we have coverage where she needs it? Ultimately, that's really what matters the most.

I too live in the Shenandoah Valley and for some reason everyone I know swears by Verizon. However, there are lots of buildings and other areas that I get service, and they do not. I have had alltel for 6 years now and for the first year or two, I did have problems getting service everywhere, but I haven't had a drop call or any problem since.
Unfortunately, where I am located, the closest alltel store is over 2 hours away!

Best thing to do is to research how the service works in your area. Even though Alltel has the "Largest Wireless Network" there are still areas where they don't have great reception and you wouldn't want to be in one of those areas.

Phone selection is also not the best but there they do have a good range. This depends on what you're looking for in a phone. Rest assured though, you'll find something that meets your needs.

The great points about the company:
Largest Wireless Network
Anytime Plan Changes - don't have to extend/renew your contract.
My Circle - pick up to ten numbers you can call for free

In my experience they have also been pretty good at helping you out in the stores. Their 1800# has improved with the addition of ne...

The National Freedom Plan is a realistic approximation of where you will have service with or without Alltel. We have roaming agreements with Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular, along with several other companies in the more rural areas, but on the NF plan it ain't absolutely everywhere. Now, if you don't want the roaming charges at all, there is the Total Freedom Plan, where you will not incur those fees. However, you don't get unlimited nights and weekends, nor do you get My Circle. There are some tradeoffs here, and you have to analyze what is available versus what you need. Overall, so far, I couldn't be happier with my service.
