i am going to get a new phone this evening from alltel. my options are the razr, krazr, or the LG8600. my question is will all of these phones be able to connect to my girlfriends blackberry pearl to exchange ringtones? also would anybody recomend one phone over the others. i live in east texas and travel to west louisiana weekly. the service on my current pones sucks, it is an LG ax5000. any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Well I can tell you now that you will not be able to exchange ringtones with the 8600 thru bluetooth! You can by sending pic msgs but that is the only way! And if there is such a way then I would like to know!

There are safeguards in the system, as I understand it, for preventing ringtone exchanges, due to copyright laws. I often get asked at my store in the Shenandoah Valley whether a customer can download the ringtones from a phone (s)he was using into the new handset, and the answer is no. You have to download them again to the new phone. Exhanging ringtones would be on a par with downloading songs from an illegal website. You'd be infringing on intellectual property. There are federal laws against that. Having worked for ASCAP for 10 years, I can tell you that you don't want to go there. You're not entitled to steal.

Yes it is stealing.....but for 1.99 or 2.99 a pop for a 10 second clip, I wouldn't feel too bad transferring it to my new phones. As long as I'm not giving them to a bunch of my friends I personally don't see a problem.

But you can only transfer them if they are not drm protected. Most of the time these are ones that you made yourself.
