What is better Internal or External Antenna?
...
The answer is, it depends. If you're in a rural area, the external may help you out a bit, although it's been my understanding that the external is for analog signals, which are going the way of the dinosaur. I've been using the RAZR V3m (internal antenna and two different phones) in the Charlottesville and Waynesboro areas of central Virginia, where there is virtually no analog left at all and a good deal of rural coverage, and I really haven't had that much of a problem. There are the occasional dead zones, but I think you'll find those anywhere.

external... extendable is always better

Do you have stats that say this? maybe the same phone with 2 diff types of antenas, which i doubt they make, so this woudl be hard to prove, i would say internal more out of the way..

Personally, I believe that Malibu was making a penus reference.....
In my opinion (humble though it may be) an extendable antenna just leaves a way for liquid, dust, and other pocket muck to get into the phone. It also gives custies yet another way to break a phone irreparably by grabbing it by the antenna, or by it getting caught on something and getting ripped off.
I haven't noticed much if any difference between the functioning of a phone with an extendable, or plain external antenna or a internal one.

external is only good for analog!
...
that's not true brotha.
i'm with at&t, and when i take my external antenna out of my phone, bars drop. I don't think I'm getting an analog signal everywhere I go with AT&T. (Idaho, Utah, Virginia, California)

did you think that maybe when you unscrew it you are removing part of the internal workings which may cause your drop of bars?

but i'm not removing internal workings. i'm taking an antenna out. it's not mandatory to make the phone work, so obviously it's helping the phone get more bars.
...
maybe its a gsm thing. When I had a sanyo 8100 with sprint I got the same bars with it screwed on or off!
...
odd. try the same stunt where you're getting one or two bars.

There is no real difference between and internal or external antenna. I am a wireless technician and have tested several phones with or without external attenias and their are generally not any difference. This does not mean that all cell phones will get the same signal in the same exact location. Cell phones have an RF level and they can and will vary based on the manufactor and model of the phone. Generally Nokia and Motorola have the best RF levels. Hopefully this helps.

Sweet. That's really helpful. Thanks! Can I ever text you a cell phone question?
