700mhz Auction Question.

When is the 700mhz auction everyone was talking about that is supposed to make alltel a national player? There was a lot of talk about it but I havent heard anything new.

I think it is suppose to be in february '08, but that is just something I heard. It can always be pushed up or down....

The latest I heard was that the auction will be in January.

Question...what is going to happen to Alltel if they DON'T win any bandwidth on the 700 Mhz frequency? Does that make them more attractive to be sold off by the holding companies? I don't think so. I can tell you for a fact that Verizon is going to kick Alltel's rear end back to Arkansas when they come into Charlottesville in 2009/2010. They've been airing Verizon Wireless commercials on television in this market for as long as I've been living in Charlottesville, which is three years now, and they're not going to be offering service with local numbers for at least another two.

Verizon usually takes a long time to build out a network. Especially if they are in the PCS band. IF they are going to kick Alltel out of Charlotte it will take 2-3 years after they arrive before they even make a big dent. Verizon really doesn't do any better then Sprint in building out their network anymore, it's all about marketing. Although they do do a better job at managing the capacity side of it.....
