So, my plan is up and Im looking for a new phone. Im diggin both of these phones and am having a hard time deciding which to get. I dont care that the 8830 can work in other countries or that the Pearl has a camera. Im more about the phone and its OS and the email aspects of the phone. Price isnt a deciding factor either...just looking for an feedback from those that have used both? Thanks in advance! đ

They are the same. The only difference (other than the ones you stated) is the keyboard. Full Qwerty or sure-type.

I currently own the 8830, and love it to death. I sold my PPC6800 and picked up the BB ... couldn't be happier. The 8830 has a MUCH brighter screen, and of course the full QWERTY. The Pearl uses the stupid 1/2 scale job, but does have a 2MP camera and a standard 3.5MM headphone jack. I still prefer the overall feel of the 8830, especially with the full board. They both have the same memory and features for the most part, so go with the one that feels best in your hand. Btw, the Pearl comes with the most worst "case" ever, whereas the 8830 comes with a full "smart" case. Hope this helps!

Forget both, I Palm is where it is at. Go with the 700WX or 755. The Blackberry is trash in comparison.

Lol, nice! Palm devices aren't bad, they just haven't changed much at all in like 3.5 years. Kinda sad. Moving the antenna inside the case doesn't make it a new phone. Don't get me wrong ... I loved my Treo 650, but the BB 8830 absolutely pwns it for business. Which BB did you go with, jimothy23?

awesome man! glad you like it. The ONLY gripe I have about the 8830, is the net browser. It's not quite on par with the WM6 phones, but everything else about it is outstanding.

I'll give you that both of these are great phones. Personally I don't like the 8830 due to the lack of a camera (sadly as of right now the camera on the pearl is useless if you want to do picture messaging/an update should be out soon for that). The keyboard on the Pearl does take some time to adapt to. Other than that I haven't seen too many differences. The one thing I've consistantly heard from owners of the 8830 is they have to reboot the phone every couple days cause it locks up on them.

So the only negative thing I have found about my 8830 is the volume of the ringtone. I cant get a loud ringer. All songs from my memory card play loud in the media player but when assigned as a ringtone, fuh-get-uh-about- it! Is there anything that can help me?

I ABUSE my 8830 and have yet to experience a lock-up. Freezes are something I've never heard from a BB owner. I'm happy the 8830 doesn't waste memory on a camera. If I really want a pic, I'll use my Canon dSLR's.
Regarding the ringer volume, there is no true "fix" for this issue. You have to dl some ringtones that have had their Db's boosted to be louder. Do a search on crackberry.com or even blackberryforums.com. There are a couple on there that sound decent. It's rumored that the 4.3 OS may fix this, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Sucks we can't use music, though âšī¸ If you can't find any, shoot me an email address and I'll forward them to you. Good luck!

I have yet to have a single problem with my Treo 700WX. Blackberry users come in, bitch about their device, poor reception, yet I've experienced "zero" problems. Oh well... I guess the Treo sucks hard.

It's obvious you're a die-hard Treo fan, so just stop. It's rather well known in this industry that Palm hasn't had the greatest track record in recent years with the 650/700/700w/700wx. While easy to use, the OS is far from stable. If you're going to argue reliability, let's use the Razr for example, as it's in the same boat: Some owners absolutely love the thing, while we all know it's a piece of junk. You like Palm, and that's fine ... but you don't need to jump in a BB oriented thread and tell us contrary to what most of us know: Palm is good, but not the greatest. BB's TEND to be much more stable. Most users who bitch about them simply don't get the functionality (granted, it IS very different from what we're all used to), so cha...

Actually it isn't a blackberry oriented thread, if you read the original post it was asking which was better, an opinion. You were allowed to offer your opinion, regardless of how wrong you are, and bash the Treo. I'm not allowed the same liberty? Oh, and just so you don't continue to assume I am a "die hard treo fan", I have a BB Pearl for my AT&T service and a Dash with T-Mobile... not to mention that I recommended the World Edition to a family member.
I have heard several complaints about freezing BB's on Alltel's network, but most people who purchase the Treo, me included, have had little trouble on Alltel's network.

I got the Pearl and I absolutely love it! I liked the 8830 too but I wanted something small I could just throw in my shirt pocket. The Blackberry works perfectly and it's amazing. I love all the extra programs out there.
My friend has the Treo 700wx and it locks up when he "runs too many programs". He evens misses calls because it locks up unexpectedly. Treos are just too big and bulky too. And once you get used to the trackball on the BB, there's no way you could use anything else. Gotta love the Blackberry!

Glad you're liking your BB! The Pearl really is easier on the eyes than my 8830, but I couldn't function without a full qwerty. I've seen people absolutely FLY on 8130's, so I can't really knock it there. Enjoy!
