Alltel coverage map is a joke!!!

I have verizon and my friend has alltel. I was driving up to show low with him and according to verizons coverage map alltels digital coverage extends farther out, about 10-15 miles past verizons in Payson.Anyways driving past Payson to Show Low my Verizon service started to die out till the indicator said no service which was to be expected. The funny thing is my friends Alltel phone cut out almost at the same time. Does Alltel actually test thier networks coverage or do they just post how far a tower should cover without taking into account terrain blocking signal.

All coverage maps are theoretical. Terrain, especially mountains and trees will block any carrier's coverage. There's no way any carrier could ever publish completely accurate maps that illustrate every little nook and cranny of the United States. Every cellular customer needs to take their phone to areas where they feel they HAVE to have coverage. If there is a dead spot, don't blame the carrier. Just return the equipment and cancel during your trial period. Chances are if you are experiencing a dead spot in a given area it's not going to change any time soon.

T mobile has the detailed coverage maps for their network which are actually very accurate, my friend has tmobile and their maps are almost precise, of course buildings aren't taken into consideration

Yeah according to T-Mobile's coverage map I am supposed to get good coverage at my house on the I-Cam tool and I get little or no signal at my house wven with a nokia 6600 and that is the best signal phone I have ever had. Alltel and Verizon have practically the same coverage map so that statement is ludicrous. They roam off the same carriers and each other so that statement carries no water.

Here in Arizona, alltel and verizon operate seperate networks so coverage is different. Of course no coverage map will be 100 percent accurate but it seems like alltel is the most "optimistic" out of all the carriers.

Sorry, I know T-mobile does not use alltel or Verizon towers I was just saying that the personal coverage check is not as accurate as claimed. But i digress, the coverage check is also optimistic. Maybe alltel's map is optimistic I was just saying that the America's choice and National Freedom look very similiar. The only point I will make is Alltel and Verizon only compete in a small percentage of the markets and that is what I meant. In Tampa and and in certain spots towards the center of the state minus orlando Alltel does extend farther than Verizon. Verizon does have a good network but to imply that one is much better than the other is wrong just because they use each others networks in so many cities. I work for Alltel and I love the...

Per Alltel website printed on the bottom of every coverage map

Maps are a general representation of coverage. They are for illustrative purposes only. Wireless service is subject to limitations and may vary based on system availability and capacity, customer equipment, terrain, signal strength, buildings, weather and other conditions. Service outside the Alltel network, although depicted on our maps, is based on information from other carriers or publicly available information, and we cannot guarantee its accuracy. Alltel does not guarantee coverage or service availability

there you have it...

Actually, the gibberish above was posted by GIVERIKS. It was then paraphrased by gandalf1 in his response. So Gireviks is the proud author. 😲

I still do not understand how alltel's representation maps show coverage ten miles beyond Verizon's. I am still kinda confused about what the above post said. Is it saying Alltel died out in the same place? If it is not native alltel coverage it is probably Verizon coverage and the map is then based on what Verizon tells them the coverage is!
