i'm sure that all of the national carriers are looking at tmobile, any time a large carrier puts itself up for sale other carriers will weigh their options.

I woudl like it it would be possible though becuase alltel has little overlap with T-Mobile and this would alltel to get spectrum in larger markets and truly become a national carrier. If any current wireless carrier has the cash flow it would be alltel so let's see what happens.

I don't know where you get your information about Alltel's cash; but it is WRONG

From the stock holder prospectus I get every year. Hey they put over 2 billion to the bottom line last being as small a carrier as they are. Just curious how I would be wrong if I never threw out any numbers. All I said was they have a very strong cash flow and are one of the more profitable wireless companies in the industry. And hey the stock is outperforming them all right now.

Edit: here are the exact numbers from Alltel's prospectus Net income: $1,046,200,000 and $2.5 billion in net cash from operations in 2004 and the only way to argue those numbers is say alltel is lying in the prospectus they send to all shareholders. Also Western Wireless was a $6 billion deal and that was all done with cash and some stock sales. If they needed to I am pretty sure they could find a way to either raise, borrow, or in some fashion come up with the money to make it happen. Hey there credit rating is good enough I would invest in bonds if I needed too. With all that being said they still returned over $1 billion to their shareholders through $450 million in dividends and repurchasing 11.2 million shares of common stock at a cos...

Thanks for the information. I was getting my info from a store manager who said they have cut staff; raised quotas; and generally screwed up several things.

I guess as long as the stock is doing well, nothing else matters.

That is a very interesting possibility, but is Alltel willing to spend a lot of money for the necessities that Tmobile USA needs in order to compete in this fast-moving, high-competitive wireless industry as well as to spend at least $20-30 billion dollars on them? I am not sure about that.

What is everyone’s take on that?

If any cell company will Alltel has the best cash flow and is very dynamic in that regard. They have done it before just not on the same size level. Look at CenturyTel they were TDMA and Alltel forced them out through use of PRL updates and took them over and converted them to CDMA. I like the chances of Alltel doing more so than any other Cell carrier in the US. The market overlaps since they are minute will not lead to much divesting so I love it. Like I said though it is all conjecture and as much as I like it we will see what happens through the end of the year!

Ok they are willing to put up the money to do it. That is basically what I did the first time and I gave an example using the CenturyTel hostile takeover. Like I said they also have the free cash and strong enough finances that are as good as anyone to get it done. If Scott Ford really wants T-Mobile he will make it happen. So yes if the price is right I think they would be willing to put up the money to do it.

I still think that one of the big companies (Cingular, Verizon, Sprint-Nextel [although they are quite busy]) are going to buy the company just to shut it down.

Say, here we go, change the name on the bill to vz or whatever, and when they renew their contract, give them vzw cdma phones, and have them part of their network....and throw away all the tmobile 2g towers, or loan them to small regional carriers that would need them.

Effectively buying the customers, not the network!

Sounds like what could very well happen. The only thing is I do not think the FCC would allow it and Verizon and T-Mobile compete in the same market as do Verizon and Cingular so therefore I feel that the divestitures would be enormous and a company like Alltel would pick up a lot of these divestitures. If your scenario happnes I still think it benefits Alltel in a good way becuase they will get something out of it.
