ALLTEL to Become a Pure wireless Carrier
Alltel is spinning off its Wireline business to become a pure wireless carrier in a merger with Valor to be worth $9.1 billion dollars, including $4.2 billion in alltel's debt.
Alltel will have 11 million wireless customers in 33 states.
Alltel's shareholders will own more then 85% of the merged company. (between the wireline and valor)
this lets Alltel take off $4.2 billion from its books legally after the spin and focus more on its wireless business.

Hmmmm. I'm sure of those 11 mil where Alltel (and the new merged/spin-off/combined/whatever company) also are CLECs will still allow the subscribers to integrate their bills, I don't see any difference then. Hope it works out for them...

I like it cuz it is more focus and revenue going into the wireless. I think this is the beginning to another large purchase.

well in wireline typically business is declining becuase many consumers are switching from landline to wireless. it doesnt really mean a new purchase it just means a no focus in their business strategy. wireless tends to be more profitable then wireline especially when wireless is increasing and wireline is decreasing.

me too. lol the problem is, their stock is a bit too expensive for just a pure wireless play.
i hope they do well, lol becuase i have AT shares. 🙂

Their stock definetly is high priced but hey, historically their dividends have been very good. The stock price did respond well to the sale/merger right away but it has come back down since. Unfortunately I had to sell my shares to get into my new house, but It definetly was profitable to have it! LOL

well i do like their stock, i have their stock, but i think just to be a pure wireless play isnt worth the current price, and i wont go into it, becuase this board isnt about stocks.. 🙂
hey if you have a profit sell it! the dividends are great.. if you want to discuss further just email me.. if not its ok too.

Hey can you do me a favor and explain CLECS. I was told what it was a long time ago but I do not remember/understand what it means. Thanks!
...
CLECS= they are Competitive Local Exchange Carriers. they are competitors to the incumbent local carriers.
CLECS are telephone companies that competes with the local telephone business by providing their own network and switches.
hope that helps 🙂

I think I knew that at one point I guess I was kind of confused on how it works but i guess it is just a natural competition then huh?
