Some clarification, please...
A friend of mine recently left Verizon's service in Harrisburg, NC, just outside of Charlotte, and went with Alltel. He told me last night that Verizon uses Alltel towers there, as I do in Charlottesville, VA, since Verizon does not have local service where I live. However, my understanding was, your phone will work on either, so if he still had Verizon and used Alltel towers, the reverse would be true as well. No? He claims he got no service in his house on Verizon, and no problem now with Alltel. Would it not be the same in either case? Please explain.

They do not share towers in any way shape or form. The phones are loaded with roaming lists that that tell the phone to look for the home carrier first. The sharing of the other companies towers comes in when you roam. His Verizon phone would stay on Verizon with 1 bar before it would switch to Alltel with any type of signal strength. That is the way it work. Hope that helps out.

Yessir, that makes all the sense in the world. Thanks very much for the information. I couldn't understand why my friend would have a problem with his Verizon in Harrisburg, NC, when my Verizon works like a champ off the Alltel towers I have to use in Charlottesville, VA. I was pretty certain his situation would be the same, but your explanation makes sense. I appreciate your time.

NO problem man. AS long as you do not ask for what phones are coming out every other day we will be ok! LOL Verizon and Alltel work the same way off the PRL in the phone. Also Verizon does not always roam off Alltel as the preferred provider in all areas. Just depends on the competition in that area.
