while technically iden is newer than cdma it is based on a varitaion of tdma, a much older system, cdma typically will give you better call quality, and since there are roaming partners that share cdma networks like verizon, alltel, and sprint you have more coverage overall. where the iden is a nextel only technology (of course with the merger with sprint this excludes the dual mode cdma/iden phones) Also keep in mind that due to the merger, years from now iden will be no more as subscribers are ever so slowy migrated to sprints cdma.

iden newer then CDMA? I don't think so. Anyway unless you are planning on using the direct connect feature, why bother with Nextel. Their plans are more co...

Sprint may only use the 1.9ghz band, most of their phones also have the 800mhz band for roaming in areas not using 1.9ghz. As for Alltel, they're mostly in the 800 band, but they have some coverage in the south using the 1.9ghz band. I just wonder if the AT&T Wireless licenses they acquired in Michigan were PCS. Alltel already has the A side cellular in the Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo/Battle Creek markets, while Verizon has the B side cellular in the Grand Rapids market.

I thought Verizon had the B side in the Grand Rapids Market; they have the A side, while Alltel has the B side. I knew I had something wrong when I looked at a map of carriers having the A side & B side cellular licenses for cert...

Well Alltel is better in some regards but Nextel (mainly Nextel Partners) is better in others.

Alltel is very good with data, while Nextel is very good with voice and direct connect.

All one has to do is do their trial period.
