Metro Detroit area
i wonder why Alltel doesnt operate in the Metro Detroit area in Michigan, Alltel has extensive coverage in michigan But in my area(tri county area, or metro detroit area) alltel doesnt have a network here, thats y i asked was alltel was a pcs or cellular carrier but now know that alltel is a mix between pcs and cellular depending on area,
i wonder is it because my area has two carriers that use cellular(cingular and verizon,both pcs also) and there's a law(i think) that states that there is only two cellular networks in a given area
we have Tmobile, Cingular, Verizon, MetroPCS, and SprintNextel

I mentioned that Cingular had the B side in Grand Rapids. Alltel holds the B side in Grand Rapids. Cingular only has PCS licenses in the Grand Rapids market. But Cingular does hold the B side in Detriot though.

Remember too that Alltel's network in MI is mostly what they took over from Centurytel back in 2002.

Being a tier 2, regional carrier, Alltel doesn't like to move into heavy metro- areas...
Alltel could have tower ownership in the area, but not a large enough presence for retail stores to be necessary (aka Profitable)...
