Alltel and Leap 😲
sounds like a winner to me
...
Leap aka Cricket.
Both companies are CDMA and Cricket just purchased a lot of new spectrum. Cricket also covers many metro markets all of which Alltel doesn't have. The combined company would cover all but 5 states and would make Alltel a true national carrier, something they still don't get much credit being. It seems so perfect

ok now i change my mind but so then all the cricket people would have to switch to alltel plans!!
...
Circket offers unlimted service for $40.00 a month...They don't really offer anything else. Bad customer base.
...
I'd prefer to keep the Alltel pricing and pay structure, but I'd LOVE to be able to activate numbers in places that I can't now...mo' money, mo' money, mo' money!
...
No. It could be an outside shot down the road but more than likely, no.
Now, some possible license swaps (markets) could happen to fill in coverage gaps between Alltel markets. That's never out of the question.
...
No, you predicted Alltel merging with Cricket.

Key word "potential"!
This is the same crap every year about Alltel. Rumors swirl around at the end of year about Alltel to run up the stock price. Then you will see several investors sell the stock making huge profits. The pump and dump game.
Yes, Alltel is ripe for a buyout! However, with a market value of 21.7 billion which will turn into about 27 billion after negotiations. In addition, Verizon has the money but it is tight (20 billion infrastructure upgrade on wireline). Sprint/Nextel will need heavy “backers” to make the deal because Sprint/Nextel is struggling financially.
...
In my area (NW Oklahoma, NW Texas, SW Kansas) Sprint has made several roaming agreements with the small carriers. I am told they have done this all over in rural areas. I wonder what would happen to those agreements if Sprint ended up owning Alltel which is the only "major" carrier in my area. It would certainly disrupt the area, and I can't see what Sprint would get that it isn't already getting since Alltel is mostly a regional carrier.

They would get the massive EVDO network that was built out, the cellular spectrum to use. The 11 million + customers, the already well built network that covers area that they have to depend on the inferior pcs build out in rural and semi rural areas. They would also be able to say they have the largest network.
...
Sprint/Nextel would get an expanded coverage into the rural market and a quality customer base (http://www.alltel.com/corporate/media/covera ge.html). In addition, with the added specturm it would enable Sprint/Nextel to surge past Cingular and compete head to head in data wireless with Verizon (who is the industry leader).
Also, with Sprint/Nextel as "potential" bidder it would create less divestures than a merger with Verizon.

Actually there is a little buzz in the verizon forum of a alltel+verizon merger??? I have never had alltel what would you guys think of that merger?
...
They don't have any clue who is interested in them. It has been rumored verizon or sprint is looking at them. My guess is sprint is interested and feeling them out as price. They are the only one in the position as they are a cell only business. Verizon would have to give up alot. But then again sprint is still in a mess and don't think they have the cash to do it! So I doubt either one will do anyhting!
