Moto VE20 (Sprint edition): VOICE MEMO FUNCTION

When I attempt to record a telephone conversation using the Voice Memo feature I am only able to hear the telephone's incoming audio, not mine on voice memo playback...I've read carefully the VE20 Users Guide and it clearly states on page 82 that "you can also record telephone conversations." And the Users Guide mentions nothing pertaining to this limitation.
There are no apparent adjustments within the Voice Memo Options panel that I can find regarding this one-sided audio recording experience.
Have I overlooked something in this regard?
