"..BlueTooth is limited to just headset..." WHAT????

I read the following in a personal review of the Motorola v710:

"3.bluetooth is limited to just headset unless you open it up through verizon."

.......... Lorna says ............................................. ...
What do they mean, "...limited to just headset"? Does this mean that I cannot put a BlueTooth earbud in my ear because the V710 limits BT to just a headset? I do not want to wear one of those headsets. I want to wear that little contraption that hooks onto the ear and nestles in the ear.

I welcome any clarification of what that reviewer said.

Don't worry the 710 has a headset jack on it for all those old fashioned wired headsets. If you are going to all the expense of buying a BT phone why don't you want the BT headset?

Dear NWDavis......
Maybe i am not understanding the term "headset". I want one of those little BlueTooth ear buds (with no wires). I do not want what I call a *headset*. To me, a headset is a metal band with two speakers at both ends, and the speakers go into the ears. But the review said that "BT is limited to just headset" which leads me to think that with the V710 I cannot use one of those little BT earbuds.

Please tell me that I am wrong. I want to put the cell phone in my purse and walk and talk with the little BT speaker in my ear. Can I do that?

OK. I was researching again and saw "Jabra FreeSpeakā„¢ BT250v Wireless Headset
for Bluetooth Phones" and decided to see how Jabra defines "headset."

To my happy surprise, they defined it with a photograph of a little thingie that fit over the ear with a little boomlet for speaking.

So now I know how "headset" is defined in the world of BlueTooth.

Your original question makes no sense. Anyway, a headset can be either wired or wireless. Wired headsets plug into your phone via a headset jack. Wireless headset use bluetooth to connect to a bluetooth phone. When they say the V710 supports the headset profile, it means the bluetooth software on the phone is compatible with bluetooth (wireless) headsets.

The problem for me lay in my definition of *headsets.* I have written another post regarding this issue, but will reply here too. To me, *headset* was that wire across the top of your head with two ear attachments at both ends. Think Sony Walkman.

I dislike wearing this kind of across-the-top-of-the-head headset. It bothers me. Thus when the article said that BT is limited to just headset I reacted with concern.

Now, after checking out a Jabra BT *headset*, I see that in this new BT world, *headset* can also mean *ear attachment with speaker boom sticking out towards mouth.* What BT people call headset, I used to call earbud. The problem is now solved and I know that BT supports a wireless earbud/headset as well as a metal, across-the-...

The answer is that Motorola v710 will only do headset. It will not do file transfer or bluetooth dialing. Example you will not be able to transfer addresses from your PDA to your phone or vise versa or dial a number from your bluetooth PDA.
