Cingular V400 in Europe
I have got a different answer everytime I talk with some one from Cingular (store, customer service, internet)so I need some real practical help. I recently purchased a motorola v400 from a1wireless.com and it arrived already activated with Cingular. I know (or was told) that I can use it in Europe and be on international roaming. I believe the guy on the phone said that he was activating that feature. No problem, I understand that. I also know (or think) that Int'l roaming would be much more expensive than if I purchased a sim card from a European company and used it with a European phone #. Has anyone taken their v400 (straight out of the box)to Europe (specifically Spain) and tried this? I have heard that the v400 comes unlocked but when ...

I just went to Germany with my V400 (with Cingular). The Cingular folks activated the international roaming feature before I left. I turned on the phone when we landed in Munich. It immediately picked up the O2 network. Later on, in Berlin, it switched to Vodaphone. Everything worked like a charm.
As far as international roaming being less expensive using a European SIM card, it appears that it depends on where you're planning on calling. It is true that using an overseas SIM card makes calls within Europe much cheaper. But, the prices that I saw for calling from Europe back to the USA were more expensive than Cingular's international roaming charge.

do you know if your phone is unlocked ? that is the oly way to use another sim in that phone is if its unlocked !

The V400 came unlocked from Cingular. There should not be any problems.

If you are using to call from europe to usa, activate the international roaming, if its to callin the europe, its better to buy a simcard and put it in ur 400, so t will be chaeaper to you.
