iPhone goes to T-Moblile
Without citing sources, Rheinische Post said in a preview of a story to be published on Wednesday that T-Mobile is expected to sell the iPhone exclusively with a T-Mobile contract for around 450 euros ($612) starting Nov 1.
Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile were not immediately available for comment.
The iPhone, which comes with an in-built iPod, Web browser and e-mail software, went on sale in the United States on Friday.

Apple has signed up top U.S. telecoms operator AT&T Inc. (T) in an exclusive deal for at least two years to sell the phone in the United States, where customers willing to sign a two-year contract are expected to pay $500 to $600 for a handset.
What's up with that? ATT has been trying to tell everybody that they have a five-year exclusive, and now it's two years?? Odd. 👀
And I don't believe you will find any official press release saying it is definately 5. Obviously I don't have the details but maybe there are option years or something like a sports contract. AT&T sells enough they get it longer, etc.
...a significant portion will switch to AT&T, as it is the only cellular service permitted to sell the iPhone for two years. Polls have shown that nearly 40% of those planning to buy the iPhone are not yet AT&T customers.

Looks like the ATT sources were fibbin' a bit when they were talkin' up the five year exclusive thing to USA Today and others.
But, I kinda guessed as much already. 🙂
People here and on other forums took the "2-5 year agreement" to automatically believe it was five years. I do not think you will find any press releases from AT&T or Apple making that grand statement.
Personally, I never believed Apple would tie themselves to a lone carrier for 5 years... just didn't make sense, considering ATT isn't much above 25% of the US market, and Apple would eventually want to sell to the whole market or close.
