1. DVDShrink or DVDFab to get the DVD burned to your HDD (Hopefully DVDShrink will work and not error out because there is an option to "split VOB files into 1GB chunks" DO NOT have this checked or your movie will be in 2, 3, or 4 separate files. Having this unchecked will allow the main movie to be in one large file being much easier to convert later. DVDFab does not have this option and you are forced to live with multiple files.)

2. Use "Any Video Converter" - Freeware on download.com to take the .VOB file to .MP4

3. Drop the .MP4 in iTunes and iTunes will convert the .MP4 to play on the iPod or iPhone

This method has worked for me many times...
