Sony Ericsson W580 / S500

Please Help. Does anyone know how to format the memory stick?

I was having problems with my memory stick so I decided to format it on my desktop...then I read in the manual that it should only be formatted via the handset. Now my sony does not recognize my memory stick. Anyone know what can be done???
