How to “compose†a voice message on the Instinct
One of the “hidden†but fun features of the Instinct’s Visual Voicemail is the ability to create a voice message on the phone and send it to another mobile phone or to an email address. You can also send it to multiple recipients at the same time. Here’s how it works:
• From the main screen, press “voicemailâ€Â.
• At the voicemail inbox, press “+†in the upper left corner
• Select a recent contact or press “contacts†to scroll through your contact list to select a contact
• You can also add a recipient by selecting the “Manual Entry†tab and enter the Phone number or the email address of the recipient.
• Record your voice message (recording will start automatically. You can stop or record as desired)
• Press “send†if you want to send the message only to that contact, or
• If you want to send the message to multiple recipients:
o From the voice recording screen (before pressing “sendâ€Â), press the “+†again (upper right corner)
o Select another contact by pressing on the selection in the contact screen.
o Continuing adding recipients, one at a time, until you have added all recipients desired.
o The screen will show the number of total recipients in parenthesis.
o You can mix emails and mobile numbers for the same message
o You can include yourself as a recipient.
o If you want to check your list before sending, press on the “To†box. The full list will appear and you can delete recipients if desired. Press “done†if the list is now ok.
• Press “Send†to send your message.
A few other hints:
• Sprint no longer assesses data charges for voice SMS messages. The message counts the same as a text message in whatever plan you have.
• If the recipient has a Voice SMS enabled Sprint handset, they will receive the voice message directly on their phone, in the messaging inbox.
• If the recipient does not have a Sprint Voice SMS handset (or it’s not been activated), they will receive a SMS notification message directing them to call into an IVR and retrieve the message.
• If you have put your name in the “From name†field of the voicemail settings, that name will appear on the notification SMS to the recipient.
• Email recipients will get an email with an audio (.wav) file attached and link to play on the web (optional).
• If the one of your recipients has a Sprint handset (other than Instinct), but doesn’t receive the message directly on that handset, most likely the voice SMS service has not been registered. Ask the individual to compose a test voice message back to you. That will register the handset in the Core Mobility database. Next time, they should be able to receive the voice message directly on their handset.
