Got v5 last night
I do think that the screen response is better/faster. I used to have to do multiple pushes to get the icon to unlock, and finally would go the switch on the side. That seem much better.
Does anyone know why this isn't OTA ??? is it an actual limitation, or was it an arbitrary decesion on Verizon's part ???

i just got off the phone with the local tech, first they said there were no new updates, then they said the new dares were running ver.5 and mine is ver.3.... so there is an update, but i dont know what it does lol i think i have to wait till tomorrow to do it âšī¸

* The "press here to unlock" prompt frequently seems to be drawn behind alerts that are received while locked, especially MMS or SMS notifications. The "press here" bar either can't be seen or is seen peeking out behind the alert, but cannot be pressed. The phone remains locked, and the side button may be used to unlock it. The problem is the screen is missing the normal [Touch to Unlock] soft key and the [View Now] and [View Later] message soft keys. Fixed by changing the display status variable that is not affected by background applications.

So I called customer service yesterday to ask about this update and I was told that they just recieved an email about it and she basically read me all of those improvements. I was also told that they are not doing a software update because the problems are hit and miss, but they are instead sending me a new phone with the most up to date software on it. She also told me that the v5 is the newest. Seems kind of strange that they would exchange my device instead of up date it. Isnt that why it had the option to update on the phone info screen?

2nd, i have 280 messages in my inbox, and before the update, if i went to any of them past 100, the phone would shut off and restart. since the update, no problems (i tried)phone works great. havent noticed a difference with bluetooth, but my bluetooth (with the exception of the blueant z9, always worked well

Ok well I have a Dare and I am looking for this update, how do I do it and how do I know what software version i am running? My phone resets sometimes while using vz navigator.

the top line will say:
[sw version]

Your Version should be stated on the first "Verison file".
Not all the stores will have the update, so you should call around and see who has it, reflash should be 15-20 (or depending how busy they are).

a lot of people on hofo said 20 minutes, but the tech in my area said an hour.

the reason why the tech will state that it can take an hour is because they back up all your information to a dummy phone. Just in case the new firmware erases everything. So depending on how much stuff you have on your phone it can take an hour.

really? isnt that illegal? i know it backs up to a machine, but i dont believe he puts it on a phone. and you can only back up numbers and pics/vids and sounds/ringtones.

so far the only thing i dont like from the update is this
when i text, i mostly use the 1-9 keypad with "word". with the v.03 when i went to spell a word with the full qwerty, then went back to 1-9, it went back to "word". now it stays on "abc"
