I used my Droid GPS for a long drive

After using the Droid GPS, I am not quite ready to give up my TomTom. The Droid mapped my drive perfectly, but I did not have the convenient large touch screen icons that the TomTom supplies. I think it would be much better if I had a driving partner/navigator. The places feature is not well integrated with the map, at least not if I am driving. How much of the GPS is accessible with verbal commands? For me, getting some kind of mount for the Droid in my car will be essential if I want to use it as a GPS.

It worked great for me as a travel GPS once I was at my destination. It correctly found coffee shops for me and the maps are great if I am sitting where I can study what is going on.

On the Verizon web site under accessories they sell a windshield mount. I just got the droid yesterday and I used the goggle maps for the first miles on the way to work today and I like the fact that you can see the satellite image of everything coming up as you drive along the route. I have not chosen to buy the mount yet. It looks good though on the web site.

there is a $30 mount for the Droid that puts it in Car mode (big finger friendly buttons) and allows you to mount it on the windshield.

You can put it in car mode without the dock by going into the app drawer and hitting "Car Home"

Doesn't help with the windshield mount, though. 😈
