My backup option

I finally just went to Best Buy and bought the V400 for Cingular. Being that the phone is sold unlocked I'm using it on ATT till the V600 comes out. Best part is that Best Buy gives you a 30 day unconditional return so I'm kinda just renting the phone. Can't use my bluetooth headset but I have a good feel for V600 when it finally comes out. I recommend that if you have to have a new phone, like me (I had the T68i), that you do the same.

How much from Best buy?
Without Cingular service agreement?

Sounds like a good idea.

forget it. Info must be wrong. Best Buy WILL NOT sell the phone without cingular service.

The plot thickens. Called two more stores. One said they WILL sell it without service but.... it will cost 150 extra.

I'm almost in your shoes... I'm going crazy trying to pick a phone and service, so here's my question for you/ all, I'd really appreciate some expert input:

I'm a not yet a sub for either cing or att right now - I'm thinking of going with the T616 thru cingular b/c I really want a hot phone SOON as well as the conveience of BT, AND ATT is not so great in Western NY right now. Then I'd just wait a while for the v600 for cingular to come out (I'll buy it out right). I would imagine that any tic tac problems encountered with the newer ATT version would be worked out by the time it hit Cing?

Any thoughts? Besides, do I want an ATT branded phone that could on Vodafone or Cingular in a year? How would a merger affect service, branding, c...

I'm by no means an expert, but what I can tell you is that regardless who buys AT&T, the change over will not be instantaneous. I was also told that there hasn't been any determination on whether current AT&T subscribers will remain on their current packages, or whether this will change. I am not sure how Customer Service can make that determination without knowledge of who the buyer is, but at least that's what they're saying when you call them. I have been looking at the advantages and disadvantages of Cingular/Vodafone packages versus AT&T. What I can say is you will definately get more minutes for you money, and maybe some of the void areas of AT&T will be filled in with Cingular coverage, but Cingular's version of MMODE(Internet or ...

Thanks, good input. I'm pretty set on data with a Sprint Treo 600, love it, but has lead me to desire a better actual "phone"...

I've been itching for a new phone for while, and I'm within a 1 week span of what I will do. So now it's down to chosing the best Compact + Function + Fashion choice with the right service:

-V600 w/ might not make it here in a week or 2 + not the best ATT service reputation in Western, NY
-T616 w/ Cingular - available, BT, good reviews, good service - satisfies my compact + function wants, but lacks the V600 fashion that is til cingular gets it down the road...

Thanks for letting me vent...

Decisions decisons...
