Got the phone, my review

Hi,
I just received the phone today (purchased it off ebay for 580$ including shipping). My initial impression: very nice. It was much lighter and smaller than what I thought it would be. The screen dimensions and the screen itself are very similar to the V300. Software is almost identical, you only have a couple of new entries relating to the bluetooth and video playback features. RF quality is excellent, perhaps even better than my old v60g. I am a T-mobile customer and all I had to do was slip in my old sim and I was up and running. T-zones worked flawlessly and I was able to send and receive email. Very nice.

Key points:

Q. Is the phone worth it?
A. Yes, if you do not have a v300 or a v400 already. Otherwise, not really so. The differences are not nearly so great as to justify the premium that you have to pay over those phones (in fact, the main difference it might be argued is the shape, which is not radically different, contrary to what I had imagined from looking at pictures on the net). Bluetooth is cool, but you have to analyze if you really need it.

Q. What is a good price point for this?
A. imo, around 350-400. No more, maybe around 500 with a wireless bluetooth headset, but that is pushing it.

Q. Do I have to wait for this even if I am desperate for a new phone and am currently passing up another vxxx?
A. No, not really needed. If you *absolutely need* a phone (as I did, my old phone broke), go for this one.

Hope this is of some use. And oh, my phone is unbranded/unlocked (heh, it even detects AT&T and T-mobile as possible networks although curiously not Cingular - this is in the Gainesville, FL area.)

Nice review...I also have the V600 (got mine on Tue - see my previous post about using it with Palm and Mac) and am pretty happy with it. Screen is excellent...by far the best I have seen (yes, better than NEC 525 IMHO - I checked it out at the AT&T store in Troy, MI) and camera is very good (again, better than NEC 525 IMHO). Using iTunes and a program for Macs called Sound Studio, I was able to cut clips from mp3's and use them as ringtones...sound quality is EXCELLENT and it WILL play mp3's at least 192 kbps quality as well as True Tones (not sure what the file type is...I think similar to QCPs on Sprint). Video playback is great, especially if you use Quicktime Pro ($30) to convert movies into the 3GP format. Phone book DOES support m...
