FIRMWARE

I am about to get an OEM v600, and I am hoping to get one of the latest batches.

I am assuming that the firmware is one way to find out what batch it is from.

The people at plemix.com said they don't know how to find out which firmware it is on the phone, but that they will tell me how if I let them know how to get that information.

I have two questions:

1) How do I find out the firmware on the V600?

2) What are the different firmware numbers out there and what is the latest firmware?

OH, I see from Cassie21's post that the plemix.com sells the V600 that has the firmware 0B.09.1CR

Is this the latest one? Is it old?

On the web ... 0B.09.1DR is supposed to be the "latest stable bug-free" version ... I don't know if that's a later or earlier version compared to 0B.09.1CR! (Is 1CR later or earlier than 1DR , anyone?!)

0B.09 phones are supposed to be the latest batches ...
The latest v600s also start up with a dark green screen instead of a dark grey screen when its turned on. (I know, I know too much - I love this phone though!)

Hope this helps 🙂

oh and I found out the firmware from my phone by connecting it with the USB cable from the Mobile Phone Tools package (included in the plemix package), installing the software ... the software reads the phone and shows the firmware version.

Thanks for responding Cass. I wish we could find out what the differences are between these different versions. I wonder if AT&T would be willing to update the firmware and possibly flex, on our phones at their at&t wireless stores for free.

I doubt that AT&T would do that unless it was to fix a major problem on their AT&T branded v600s.

There will probably be AT&T firmware and flexes online when the official phones come out though, check www.howardforums.com!

The simple answer:

Firmware is the basic software that makes the phone work.

Flex is the "mask" that a company (like AT&T) puts over the firmware, showing the features they want to show and hiding the features they don't want to show. Flex customizes the phone, gives it start up screen logos, etc.

On the phone itself - Menu->Settings->Phone Status->Other information->S/W version. The number you want is in the form TRIPLETS_G_.

My v600 didn't come with the "Other information" selection in the Phone status menu ... so I had to use the Phone Tools to get the firmware version.

That's interesting. What Flex are you running?

I don't know what flex version my v600 has, just the one that came with the phone.

If you can't get to the Other Information menu, then I tend to suspect that you don't actually have the OEM Flex. It may be unbranded, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it hasn't been customized somehow.
