Offer made possible by "doubling of company's national GSM coverage area" (yeah, its Cingular's!) and by significant quality improvements in GSM network

REDMOND, Wash. - AT&T Wireless (NYSE: AWE) today announced an aggressive new national flagship offer, AT&T Wireless GSMâ„¢ America, which eliminates roaming charges for many customers.

The new offer is made possible by the company's doubling of its national GSM coverage area in the last year and by significant quality improvements in its GSM network, AT&T Wireless said.

i guess they think this is good news. interesting that they don't mention they've chopped a huge number of minutes from their plans at the same time. (example: the $39.99 plan now has 450 minutes instead of 600 or 650) i live in a major metropolitan area and i have a national plan, so i've never had to pay a roaming charge in my life, so frankly i'd rather have the 150 mintues.

They are not only grandfathered; they get to sign up for another 2 years @ the same $99.00 unlimited if they were a charter subscriber to AT & T's GSM....so more coverage at the same initial price.
